We have sold our OCR Framed "Nitro V60" to our friend Samu Kempainnen of SKULL Racing in Finland.  Also another member of the Finnish supertwin community has stepped up to a "Nitro V60".  With that, Ron Houniet and Nate are going to make the trip to Kunmadaras, Hungary for the first event of the 2011 EUM Championship Series.  Nate and Ron will be tuning the  "Nitro V60's" for Samu and Petri in Supertwin. Nate will also be riding Samu's old Supertwin bike at this event and hopefully 3 more 2011 UEM events in Top Fuel against the supercharged Jap bikes.

Big Kids racing 2010 Wrap up

Our season started on my (Nate) Birthday weekend May8-9th with a Test and Tune weekend in Mission BC. With the help of Ron Houniet we worked out some bugs on the bike and made a few passes. Highlight of the weekend was the 6ft long Sturgeon we caught on Ron’s boat. nates_birthday_002.jpgThanks for the birthday present Ron.

The First Event was with the NBRA at the NHRA Lucas oil Division 6 event in Mission BC May 28th-31st. We qualified 4thwith some not so astounding mid 7’s. To be knocked out first round by Mike Scott’s high 7 sec to our Tire smoking-shut-off pass of 11sec.  The event went on to be rained out and the finals where finished at the next NBRA event in Mission, where Ron Houniet took the win over Ken Kent

Second event for us was in Grand Bend, Ontario for the father’s day show put on by Dino Gaudino of “Rocky’s Harley Davidson” in London, Ont. and the CMDRA on June 19th and 20th.  We hitched a ride for the bike with Ron, Mike and Arky (thanks guys) in Mike’s Rig.  This ended up being a great event for us, we qualified 2nd with our first .60 a 6.63@209mph. First round we had Mike Scott we took the round win with a 6.70@205mph to Mikes 7.28@201mph. Second round we tire shook and put out a cylinder while Jay Turner went on to do a 6.47@220mph. Jay Turner also won the event over Damian Cownden with a 6.408@228mph in the finals. Great Event Thanks “Dino”

Third event was the next weekend with the NBRA at the IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta on June 25th-27th.  First day of qualifying was rained out for the Nitro Bikes so we only got two rounds of qualifying on the Saturday with the last round being at 12:30am on Sunday. We managed to squeak a 7.17@206mph putting us in #6 spot. See that here:

First round we got taken out by Jason Arkinstalls’

6.66@205mph to our 7.03@198mph. Arky went on to win the event and the Iron Man. Good job guys.

A few weeks off camping with the family and we were back for our 4th event with the NBRA at the NHRA Nationals in Mission, BC on July 23rd-25th . Friday was a test day for the Nitro Bikes and we came out blazing with an out of the trailer This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Saturday qualifying went well for us Round 1

putting us in 2nd behind John Breckenridge’s
6.402@217mph . First round eliminations put us up against Jim Shellenburg, who couldn’t make the call due to a torched head. We managed a smooth 6.51@214mph See that here
2nd Round eliminations saw us up against Mike Pelrine who took the win with a 6.76@217mph (good job guys) to our Tire Shaking 1.059 60ft - 2.80 330ft then she shut off due to wheel spin. (wish we could take that back). Mike Pelrine went on to win the Wally over Ron Houniet in the Finals.

A month off and a new race trailer thanks to Kitt Equipment img_0575.jpg

we were back for our 5th event with the CMDRA in Mission, BC.  Not such a good weekend for us in the Big Kids Racing pits. First round of qualifying we tore off our rear sprocket damaging the hub as well. Tried to do the quick fix between rounds and managed to get it back together for the 3rd round of qualifying where the damaged hub seemed to be just too much and it snapped again.  Thanks to Ron Houniet for hooking us up with a new hub for the next day.  Ending Qualifying  1st alternate and as Rob Smith had engine failure, we got put in the show only for the next day to be rained out. What a bummer of a weekend.

Next for me was a trip to Finland to help my friend and owner of my old bike Samu Kempainnen at the Finnish Nationals held at Alastaro Raceway. This, by the way is one of the premium sporting complexes I have ever seen.  With a full road race track, Nice 1/4mile, two pubs on premises a Sauna, rental condos and a track owner (great guy) with a racing background.  I got to Finland on Thursday night and was picked up by Samu and handed a tall can of Budweiser. (How did he know?) Funny thing in Finland is that any passenger (of age) in a car can drink at anytime. Sweet!  Samu, his wife Ina and her brother John took me out for some drinks and a late night tour of the town. Good time thanks.  Friday Samu and I headed to the track. It took about 2hrs from Helsinki to Alastaro.  Felt like 8hrs due to my grinding headache. (yup, good night on Thursday) Got to the track, set-up, met a few people and got into the bike.  Saturday qualifying with 5-7 degree Celsius weather we ran a 7.28 to get us in the number 2 spot behind Jaaska Salakari’s 6.67. Where, in Jaaska’s run his ignition turned off at 300ft and the bike still dieseled on Nitro to a 6.67. What crazy machines those KTM Dukes are.  Sunday eliminations even colder, we made it to the semi finals trying to get the bike to stop shutting off before 1000ft to get that elusive 6sec pass.  Without a lean-out on the bike she just wouldn’t go through the lights under power and in the Semi’s the bike blew a belt. Damn.  Good weekend all in all. Congrats to Petri for the event win. It was great to meet everyone at the track. Big list of names, hello and thanks to all for making it fun and comfortable. Sunday night we got back to Helsinki late and on Monday we went tourist. Not for long as I had an accident in the mall and needed a complete change of clothes. (Damn McDonald’s coffee everywhere)  Later that night we went to our new Friends in Helsinki for a Sauna and some drinks.  Thanks; Jallu, Vesa and Unde for the hospitality (keep the world free). Tuesday was a tourist day as well and Wednesday I flew home.  Thanks for the trip Samu and Tomi.

Back in Canada for our final event of the Season with the NBRA at the Castrol Big Buck Weekend in Edmonton Alberta September 4-5th.  We Qualified 2nd behind Ken Kent with a 6.87@209mph and set the High mph for the event.  First round win over Devin Pelrine with a 6.94@206mph and lost in the Semis after breaking the input shaft on our transmission and taking out our clutch cannon against Jason Arkinstall.  Ken Kent went on to win the event over Arky and take home the NBRA championship. Good Job Ken, Ray and Glenn of Prairie Fire Racing. Great Season!

2009 Update:

The 2009 Season Has come to an end for us here at BigKids Racing.  09' was full of suprises. From Nate's broken Hand which took surgery (2 plates and 10 screws) to repair and missing two good events. To Arky hitting the wall and having to bail in Edmonton after winning an IronMan!

Watch That Here:

v60_mock_up.jpg The New V60 Motor from Fastlane Racing is in the bike. Fuel system and components on the way. The bike will be ready for CMDRA event in Edmonton and then we Rock the IHRA with the WHRA at the Rocky Rountain Nationals the following weekend.

First weekend of racing was May 22-24th at the WHRA Lucas oil event in Mission, BC. check out http://www.whrainc.com/ for details. We ran our 160ci prp for this event trying to take it easy on the Motor for our friends in Finland that purchased it on the Friday morning.  All who know NITRO know there is no easy and of course the motor needed some repair before shipping. Check them out at http://www.skullracing.fi/
